we just installed new Kitchenaid dishwasher on our own. I read somewhere, in the context of a particular dishwasher model, that the unit purposely fills the tub with an inch of water at the end of a cycle, in order to keep the rubber seals wet. At the end of the cycle, when the water is in the bottom of the washer, if I start a cycle and immediately cancel it, the drain pump is activated for about 90 seconds, as desired. Emptied the bottom of the dish washer with small jug then soaked up the the remaining water with towel, took of the small pump cover with Allen key only to find a small piece of kebab stick stuck in the pump fan. This is normal since each spray arm has its own sound. 1. At least I know what to look for now. But I would also agree with Gil in that it never hurts to run basic troubleshooting before rushing to the store like I did.
